Hello Communicators,
It's the end of Q1 (what?!) and I want to take this opportunity to talk about alignment in our organizations.
Alignment. It’s one of the most powerful—and overlooked—forces in effective communication. When employees clearly understand how their work connects to organizational strategy and objectives, everything changes. Engagement rises. Performance improves. Frustration dissipates.
But when alignment is off, the ripple effect is immediate. Confusion, inefficiencies, and misdirected efforts start to take hold. And in times of uncertainty or crisis? Misalignment can slow down decision-making, erode trust, and pull teams in the wrong direction.
When teams know exactly how their work contributes to the big picture, they’re not just more productive—they’re happier, more engaged, and more invested in success.
Gallagher’s 2025 Employee Communications report touches on the purpose vs. perception paradox in internal communications.
Communication isn’t one-size-fits-all. Its purpose can shift depending on the organization, the context, and the audience. And when communicators aren’t aligned with organizational priorities, that’s when clarity breaks down, trust erodes, and progress stalls.
I’ve included insights and the full report link below. It’s a powerful read on how leaders can focus their efforts for greater impact in 2025.
How is alignment showing up in your organization? How are you ensuring that strategy is clear and connected at every level to reach your objectives this year?

Stat: #1 purpose of internal communication in 2025 is Strategic Alignment
(Gallagher Report 2025)
More Than That
Alignment isn’t just a word to throw around—it’s action-oriented. When employees understand the company’s strategy, objectives, and how their work contributes to the bigger picture, engagement rises, trust builds, and productivity thrives.
But when alignment is missing, confusion creeps in, decisions slow down, and motivation takes a hit.
That’s why it’s no surprise that strategic alignment is ranked as the #1 purpose of internal communication in 2025.
And during times of uncertainty or change, alignment becomes even more critical.
Employees need clarity on where the organization is headed, why priorities are shifting, and how their work matters.
So, how can we strengthen alignment in 2025?
Clarify the connection. Don’t assume people know how their work contributes to bigger objectives. Spell it out—early and often.
Keep the context clear. When priorities shift, explain why. Transparency builds trust and keeps people engaged in the mission.
Check in regularly. Alignment isn’t “set it and forget it.” Revisit expectations, listen to feedback, and adjust to keep everyone on the same page.
And here’s a simple prep tip for your next meeting or update-
ask yourself these 3 powerful questions:
What do I know?
Who needs to know?
Do they know?
Then, prepare your updates with colleagues and employees in mind. What do they need to know to stay aligned with company priorities and contribute in the most impactful way possible?
Because when communication is clear, everyone wins.
