Hi there Communicators (and by communicators, I mean everyone),

Happy New Year! A fresh year means fresh energy, bold goals, and exciting possibilities.

You’ve set the vision, mapped the strategy, and charted the path forward. But here’s the real question: What now?

How will you ensure that, come December 2025, you’re celebrating progress rather than facing the same challenges? How will you prevent communication roadblocks from holding back your goals—again?

The answer lies in rethinking how we approach communication. It’s not just a task to tick off or a soft skill to shrug about. Communication is the lifeline that ties your team to your goals and transforms strategy into success.

This year, I’m challenging you to focus on three impactful actions to drive better results:

Pinpoint communication roadblocks. Reflect on where communication has led to both success and disappointment in the past. Have honest conversations as a team about both scenarios.

Track what truly matters. Use tools like the Liby Works Roadmap (link below) to set measurable communication goals that align with your overall strategy.

Make communication an ongoing priority. Schedule time to review and refine your communication practices quarterly.

2025 is the year that we stop letting communication hold us back—and start leveraging it as the competitive edge that drives us forward.

#1 challenge for internal communications (IC) in 2025 is measuring results

More Than That

Workshop's 2025 IC trends report #1 answer for the biggest challenge facing communications professionals mirrors why I started this journey over 5 years ago.

I had a hunch - the reason organizations aren't tackling the debilitating issue of poor communication is because we don't know how to measure this “soft” business factor. So I set out to change that, so that businesses could achieve more with measurable and effective communication.

A little unconventional here, but I came to the conclusion it's because the KPIs we should be using to measure effective communication look like they're measuring something else. To measure a “soft” and critical factor, we need to think outside the box; we need to listen and observe all types of communication. I mean verbal, tone, body language and even silence. We need to ask lots of questions (a key form of communication!) and listen to the responses.

We have to stop dropping communication in a single bucket like asking “how are meetings going?” We should be asking, “how are your client meetings going,” and “how are your team meetings going? Are you getting the information you need to do your job well"?

I provide the entire Workshop Trends report below - and I encourage you to check it out.

Communication does not have to be a roadblock for business or leadership success in 2025.

Here are some steps I suggest to achieve better performance and profits in 2025:

  • Fill out the Liby Works Personal Communication Inventory (link below)

  • Identify 2-3 areas of improvement for yourself and your team that are costing you time, energy and money

  • Benchmark effective KPIs found in the Liby Work's Roadmap (link below) and in Workshop's trend report - then plan to revisit these quarterly
